April 2, 2012 – The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission will hold a public hearing on menhaden this week. The hearing will be at the Ocean County Administration Building located at 101 Hooper Ave. in Public Hearing Room 119. It is scheduled for 7 to 10 p.m. on Thursday.
The questions for comment concern how the ASMFC will implement the new reductions proposed in the fishery. The hearing also seeks input from the public on a more timely and comprehensive catch-reporting system and potential options to be used in managing Atlantic menhaden commercial bait and reduction fisheries as well as the recreational fishery.
