NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — August 17, 2012 — Sen. Scott Brown is hoping to hear a different perspective of the troubles facing local fishermen when he hosts "Ladies of the Fishing Industry Day" next week.
"Every time I go to an event, the men dominate," said John Haran, who is organizing the visit. "The senator would like to hear the women's perspective of the socio-economic impact of what's happening in the industry." He hopes to attract women in the industry and the wives, mothers and daughters of fishermen.
"He's going to come and listen," moving from table to table under a tent at the Seaport Inn in Fairhaven from 2:30-3:30 p.m., said Haran, who manages Sector XIII, a group of groundfish boats with members from New Bedford to Greenport, N.Y.
Brown will be accompanied by his wife, former Channel 5 reporter Gail Huff, who is on leave from her current job at a Washington TV station to help on her husband's campaign.
