14 March 2012 – Four days after Sen. John Kerry announced that he and Sen. Olympia Snowe were introducing the Fisheries Investment and Regulatory Relief Act, Sen. Scott Brown's office announced that he and Sen. Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia are co-sponsoring the same legislation.
The bipartisan bill is intended to help commercial fishermen by directing $100 million in federal funds towards improving fishery research.
"Senator Kerry is grateful for the support of Senators Snowe, Brown and many others from the New England delegation in his effort to restore the Kennedy-Saltonstall Act to its intended purpose and do right by our fishermen," Kerry's press officer Whitney Smith informed The Standard-Times in an email, also on Monday.
