A 10-part series about Gloucester fishermen, to debut on the National Geographic Channel April 1, is already igniting controversy over its subject: catching bluefin tuna.
The documentary, "Wicked Tuna," portrays the life and labors of four tuna boats out of Gloucester, in an adventure story not unlike the hit show, "Swords," on Discovery Channel, say producers.
"'Wicked Tuna' follows the cut-throat, high-stakes business of bluefin tuna fishing in Gloucester, Mass., as vessels and crews set sail in search of the smartest, fastest and most elusive fish in the ocean — and the big money that follows," one Hollywood review reads.
It also tackles the myth that suggests bluefin are doomed, nearly extinct — and the one that would falsely have us believe that bluefin are worth the price of a Porsche — with one fish fetching $736,000, and one slice costing $96.
