The Midcoast Fishermen’s Association announced Thursday that U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke has appointed MFA Chairman Glen Libby to the New England Fishery Management Council, the regional advisory body for federal fisheries.
"I am honored and humbled to accept this appointment, especially given the encouraging direction that New England’s fisheries are heading," said Libby, a lifelong, second-generation fisherman from Port Clyde. "I look forward to working in collaboration with my council colleagues and would like to thank all of those who supported my candidacy."
"Glen is an innovator who will bring new ideas to the process," said Jennifer Litteral, director of marine programs at the Island Institute. "His demonstrated strong commitment to making Maine’s fisheries sustainable and fishermen profitable will add important guidance to the council’s regional work."
