October 7, 2020 — A letter from the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau to seafood trading companies has suggested they avoid importing products from countries with a high count of active coronavirus cases, the latest move by the Chinese government to shut the door on trading partners they deem a threat to national health and security.
Countries that may be affected by the move include India – whose exporters have already reported a significant custom slowdown – and the United States, which both have high case counts.
