NEW BEDFORD — Mayor Jon Mitchell has appointed a search committee to find a replacement for Kristin Decas, the outgoing director of the Harbor Development Commission.
The mayor, who chairs the commission, named Dr. Brian Rothschild from UMass Dartmouth's School for Marine Science and Technology to head the search committee. Its other members include Matt Morrissey, executive director for the city's Economic Development Council; attorney Jeffrey Mullan, the former secretary of transportation for Massachusetts, and local fishing boat owner Malvin Kvilhaug.
According to the city charter, the harbor development commissioners have the authority to hire the new director, subject to the approval of the mayor.
The mayor said the search committee he has assembled broadly represents the various interests within the harbor.
