NEW BEDFORD – January 5, 2012 — New Mayor Jon Mitchell wasted no time in reassuring the fishing industry that its concerns will remain a priority as his administration embarks on a two-year voyage of its own.
On just his second day in office, Mitchell held a closed-door meeting at City Hall with leading industry figures to listen to their concerns.
"I thought it was important to do it right away. The industry contributes about a sixth to our economy but its importance is beyond dollars and cents. The fishing industry is really the soul of the city," the mayor said upon emerging from the Ashley Room at the conclusion of the 90-minute session.
"I wanted them to help me find ways to help them," Mitchell said
