Contrary to what many people seem to think, there are not fish all over the ocean. There are certain things that fish require, including a food source and some type of protection or shelter from bigger fish seeking to make them a food source.
Most of our ocean floor is like a desert with long stretches of gentle sand hills with little in the way of vegetation growing. This type of environment does not provide fish with a food source or protection from predators.
New England has its rocky bottom and the Caribbean has its coral reefs, while New Jersey has a desert. In New Jersey there are some sharp drop-offs, shelves and some rocks that provide places for fish to gather, eat, and feel safe.
