BOSTON – Senator John Kerry today announced that the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution will receive $509,840 from the U.S. Department of Commerce that will go towards the institution’s Sea Grant program.
The Woods Hole Sea Grant program supports research, education, and extension projects that encourage environmental stewardship, long-term economic development, and responsible use of the nation’s coastal and ocean resources throughout Massachusetts.
“This investment helps keep Woods Hole on the cutting edge of research impacting our coastal waters and surrounding environments,” said Sen. Kerry.
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is a private, nonprofit research and higher education facility in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, dedicated to the study of all aspects of marine science and engineering and to the education of marine researchers. Established in 1930, it is the largest independent oceanographic research institution in the U.S., with staff and students numbering about 1,000.
