Fishermen always have had a good friend in Congressman Frank Pallone (D-N.J.), and once more he is showing he is there for them in a time of need. Pallone has introduced legislation that could create jobs in coastal communities and provide funds to states for saltwater registry programs, saving anglers from paying for state licenses.
The legislation, Coastal Jobs Creation Act, has been in hearings since it was introduced in March. The act creates jobs by directing funding to research that involves fishermen and produces better fisheries stock assessments, training and deploying observers and restoring waterfronts with the help of fishermen. This bill was developed for the purpose of providing assistance to fishermen, the industries that support them and the coastal communities that benefit from fishing.
