The New England Fishery Management Council is developing Framework 45 to the Multispecies Fishery Management Plan. Discussions are preliminary, but one objective is to further protect spawning cod aggregations, particularly those targeted by recreational and commercial fishermen in Ipswich Bay (particularly in the Whaleback Area), Massachusetts Bay, and in Fishing Blocks 132 and 133. We will discuss the management actions currently being considered and showcase collaborative fisheries research on cod and winter flounder aggregations in these areas that may help inform decisions.
