Life on the Cornelia Marie took a dramatic and emotional turn on Tuesday night's episode of "Deadliest Catch."
Upon learning about his son's addiction to prescription painkillers, Captain Phil Harris decides to cut the fishing trip short so that Jake could immediately receive treatment.
As the fishing vessel heads to St. Paul, Alaska, the elder Harris is visibly stressed and worried. Footage shows the gruff 53-year-old chain-smoking cigarettes and looking through old photos of his sons.
Soon after, while in port off-loading in St. Paul, Harris suffers a stroke — a stroke that will later claim his life.
Although Discovery Channel won't air the actual moment Harris died, the rest of the season will cover the grief and aftermath of his death during the next eight episodes.
