BILOXI — With the massive oil spill lingering off the east side of the Chandeleur Island chain, Friday’s announcement to modify the closed fishing area by NOAA Fisheries Service was good news to local charter captains.
Last week the fishing boundaries included federal waters on the south side of the Horn, Ship and Cat barrier islands. That limited commercial and recreational fishing to the Mississippi Sound.
The new boundaries have been shifted farther south toward the north tip of Chandeleur Island, which opens a stretch of federal waters.
