PEABODY, MA: — Congressman John Tierney (D-MA) announced that an oversight field hearing on the fisheries enforcement programs of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will be held March 2, 2009 at Gloucester City Hall. Upon Tierney's urging, Oversight and Government Reform Domestic Policy Subcommittee Chairman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) agreed to hold the hearing in Gloucester on behalf of the City of Gloucester and fishing communities nationwide. The hearing is expected to explore the findings and recommendations of the Department of Commerce Inspector General report entitled "Review of NOAA Fisheries Enforcement Programs and Operations."
"“Next week’s hearing is expected to be the first congressional hearing on the important issues raised in the recent IG report, and I believe it was imperative that it be held in Gloucester. Additionally, I am pleased that these three senior agency officials have agreed to appear at this hearing,” said Congressman Tierney," said Congressman Tierney.
