This afternoon (Wednesday, Feb. 24) on Capitol Hill commercial and recreational fishermen from New Jersey and across the country gathered to protest the increasing restrictions on fishing by the federal government.
A staunch supporter of the local fishing industry, U.S. Rep. Frank A. LoBiondo (R-2nd) spoke at the rally about the need reign in government regulators from drastically cutting catch limits and arbitrarily shutting down fisheries. LoBiondo called for reforms to the system to include greater flexibility in the law. LoBiondo is cosponsoring H.R. 1584, the bipartisan “Flexibility in Rebuilding America’s Fisheries Act.”
South Jersey is home to the second largest commercial port on the East Coast and one of the largest recreational fishing communities in the country.
Jeff Reichle – President of Lund’s Fisheries Inc in Cape May and President of the Garden State Seafood Association – introduced LoBiondo to the crowd.
