AUGUSTA, Maine — April 14, 2015 — Maine’s scallop fishing season ended Saturday and early returns suggest that it is likely to be the best one in years.
Because the 2014 season extended over two calendar years, running from Dec. 1 through April 11, final landings information won’t be available until late February of next year, Trisha Cheney, the Department of Marine Resources resource coordinator for scallops, said in an email Monday.
The news from last December, though, is in and is excellent.
According to Cheney, while some harvesters have yet to file their required landings reports, “extremely preliminary” data reflects that, in December, draggers and divers landed 215,920 pounds of scallop meats.
