December 9, 2014 — Joe’s Lobster Mart, the beleaguered fish dealer on the shores of the Cape Cod Canal, has reopened under new ownership.
Scott Thayer, the longtime general manager of Joe’s Lobster Mart, said Monday he is sub-leasing the building from Joseph Vaudo and has received permission from the state Department of Public Health to reopen.
The Joe’s Facebook page announced that the reopening would occur Monday with a message that started, "Happy days are here again." Customers were inside making purchases late Monday afternoon.
After a protracted legal battle, Joe’s Lobster Mart was forced to close its doors Nov. 3. The state revoked the retail and wholesale fish dealer’s licenses after Joseph Vaudo pleaded guilty in March to receiving stolen oysters, but Vaudo exhausted every avenue of appeal.
Vaudo had owned and operated the business for 43 years.
“It’s been a long process,” Thayer said Monday before the market reopened. “I’m looking to get open as soon as possible and get the community back and just move forward.”
