At the request of the New England Fishery Management Council, we are implementing two separate actions based on new scientific information showing changes in stock condition for two Gulf of Maine fish stocks.
In an emergency action, we intend to increase the Gulf of Maine haddock quota because the stock size has increased to healthy levels, while in a separate action, we intend to reduce fishing mortality (to reduce overfishing) on the severely depleted Gulf of Maine cod stock.
