September 18, 2014 — The following was released by NOAA:
NOAA Fisheries announces the closure of the directed fishery for Atlantic herring in Area 3 as of 0001 hours, September 23, 2014. Vessels issued Federal Atlantic herring permits may not fish for, catch, possess or land more than 2,000 lb of herring in or from Area 3 per trip or calendar day, beginning at 0001 hr on September 23, 2014, through 2400 hr on December 31, 2014.
The only exception is that vessels that enter port before 0001 hr on September 23, 2014, may offload and sell, from that trip, more than 2,000 lb of herring from Area 3 after the closure.
