May 1, 2014 — The sum of $450,000 for fisheries research was included in a state budget amendment passed Tuesday by the House of Representatives, Rep. Antonio F. D. Cabral's office said Wednesday.
Cabral, D-New Bedford, who filed the amendment, said in a news release that that the money is marked for fisheries research at the School for Marine Science and Technology at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
"These state dollars will help protect fishing industry jobs in New Bedford and simultaneously strengthen New Bedford's position as a center for marine research," said Cabral in the release.
