April 19, 2014 — Efforts continue in Washington to keep a key marine research facility in Carteret County from being closed.
Rep. Walter Jones, R-NC, is working with colleagues to oppose the proposed closure of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric (NOAA) marine lab located on Pivers Island in Beaufort.
Jones said last week the efforts to protect the NOAA lab have received the backing of Frank Wolf, chairman of the House Appropriations subcommittee with jurisdiction over the proposal. The closing of the NOAA lab is requested in the administration’s 2015 fiscal year budget.
