February 26, 2014 — State Senate Minority leader Bruce Tarr has confirmed that Massachusetts officials expect NOAA to announce sometime this afternoon that New England will receive approximately $33 million of the $75 million in fishery disaster aid that Congress approved last month.
There is no indication this morning if NOAA also will announce how the $33 million will be divided among the region’s five Atlantic fishing states.
NOAA, however, is expected to announce that at least Massachusetts will receive a waiver freeing it from the requirement of providing 25 percent matching funds to whatever amount of federal disaster fishing funds it accepts.
