Rep. Frank Pallone Jr., D-6th, says he shares the concerns of local activists who held rallies last week to call attention to a controversial fishery management system being promoted by the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration.
Last week, representatives from Food & Water Watch held a press conference and telephone-call drive at Monument Square to urge Pallone to call for congressional hearings into NOAA’s plans to expand the use of the catch shares to manage the nation’s fisheries.
Pallone sits on the House Committee on Natural Resources and its Subcomittee on Insular Affairs, Oceans and Wildlife. In a telephone interview, Pallone said he agrees with many of the concerns raised by the group and said he would discuss the possibility of holding hearings with the subcommittee’s chair.
