December 20, 2013 — NOAA Fisheries announced this week the dates anglers will be allowed to harvest red snapper in federal waters in 2014. The state waters season has not been determined, which is all waters inside of 9 nautical miles off of the state of Florida.
The 2014 Gulf of Mexico red snapper recreational season will be 40 days, opening at 12:01 a.m. June 1 and closing at 12:01 a.m.
July 11.These dates are based on the belief that Florida, Alabama and Mississippi will have consistent regulations with the 40-day federal season, while Texas continues their 365-day season and Louisiana has a season that exceeds 80 days.
