PROVIDENCE, R.I. — December 9, 2013 — Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin has filed a brief in federal court in Massachusetts that supports a lawsuit by that state alleging the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration failed to account for economic impact of new fishing industry regulations, according to a news release Monday.
According to the release, the suit wants to reverse a regulation "imposing a 77 percent reduction of ground fish allotments across the region." NOAA oversees the Northeast Fishery Management Council, which is in charge of regulating New England fishing industry.
